  • Origins and purpose of the association

Chaplaincy of artists – Ars in Cathedrali

For centuries, arts and christian faith are strongly linked. The beauty of the saint Michael and saint Gudula cathedral reflects this link, this is why artists are welcomed : through their works or their faith are looking further than the material objects and are seeking God. Brother Alain Arnould, dominican, has in charge to listen to the artists of Brussels, the artists associated with the worlds of the theater, the visual arts, the circus, the music, or the dance. In the context of the Messes Festives, which happen every Sunday at 12.30 from end of october until the Epiphany and from the beginning of the Fast until Pentecost, professional comedians come to read the liturgical texts of the day as chosen poems or texts.

Professional musicians accompany with their talent the liturgy. During the Summer, choirs of high quality come every Sunday at 10AM to sing sacred polyphony. THe Sunday after the feast of Saint Cecilia, the annual Artists Mass gathers the artists and their friends to celebrate with joy and in a solemn way the artistic impetus that God wanted to inscribe in each of us and to commemorate the artists who died during the year. During the whole year, exhibitions are made by artists of visual arts from Belgium and foreign countries in the Cathedral, and concerts with organ and choir music are organized.

Upon request, Brother Alain is there to accompany artists who ask for a meeting or for sacraments.
